In July-August, 2022 a data collection for research of needs assessment of SMEs has been carried out within the frames of the “Tech Upskilling Initiative” program, which is implemented by UEICT in the framework of RECONOMY, an inclusive and green economic development program of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), implemented by HELVETAS Swiss Intercorporation in the Eastern Partnership and the Western Balkan countries.
A tender was announced by the Union of Employers of ICT of Armenia for implementing a needs assessment to generate and enhance economic opportunities for the disadvantaged groups in Armenia, with a special focus on women and youth.
BSC (Business support center) was declared the winner and started activities.
The research team identified target industries (including agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, and hospitality services within the SME realm) and carried out in-depth research using the following methodologies:
- 587 surveys among SME representatives in Yerevan and regions of Armenia
- 15 in-depth interviews with leading experts
- 3 focus group discussions with SMEs
- 2 round table discussions with industry experts
Based on the survey results which are presented in the presentation, the research team made a decision to develop and implement training on digital transformation for SMEs, youth, women, vulnerable groups, etc. Considering the growing demand for digital tools by SMEs, it was suggested to create an informational and educational digital platform for SMEs that will include online video training/webinars on digitalization, information on available digitalization opportunities and programs, guidebooks and templates on digitalization, digital consulting opportunity, communication platform and blog.
