On July 6, 2009, the President of the Republic of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, issued a Decree on granting the RA Presidential Award for the global contribution to humanity through information technology (Global IT Award).
The award is given annually to an authoritative individual who has made exceptional investments in the global IT sector. This award highlights Armenia as a developing high-tech center on the world IT map.
Since 2009, the award has been granted annually to an individual whose contributions to the IT sector have brought or bring revolutionary or similar developments, which have had a positive impact or have the potential to have a positive impact on humanity. These investments can have different manifestations: technological, educational, organizational and financial.
The award consists of a gold medal with diamonds on it, a diploma and a trophy symbolizing Armenia and high technologies. The eagle of the “Zvartnots Eagle” monument was used to cast the medal. The authors of the monument are architect Rafayel Israyelyan and sculptor Ervand Kochar.
The award program is being realized by the Award Committee appointed by the President of the Republic of Armenia and International Selection Commission.
